About
Abstract Sight Records
The music imprint of the Abstract Sight family.
Abstract Sight Records began with a simple idea: make records with the care normally reserved for things meant to be kept.
A record can still behave like an object, even when it arrives as a file. A cover worth looking at. Notes worth reading. A sequence that was decided rather than assembled. Something that repays coming back to in a year, and in ten.
So the records are made the way books are made. Each one is given a catalogue number and a place in a sequence. The artwork is made for the record rather than chosen from a library. Each release is meant to come with something to read — an essay, a note on where the songs came from, the credits set out plainly.
What the records are about
The subjects are wide on purpose.
Christmas, to begin with: a record for the quiet hours of winter, and the first of an annual series. Every year, a different window into the same night.
After that, whatever is worth being here for. Joy, and how good a life can be. Memory, and the people and places that made us. The universe, and how small and lucky we are inside it. And the new intelligences we are beginning to share the work with.
Different worlds. A common belief: there is more to hear.
How the records are made
Credited plainly.
Where generative tools are used, they are named. Where a person did the work, the person is credited. Neither is dressed up as the other, and neither is buried.
The credits belong to the record. They are printed in the booklet and published on the release page, not tucked into a disclaimer.
The family
Abstract Sight Records is the music imprint within the Abstract Sight family — a group of small imprints that share a sensibility rather than a genre: printed, considered, made to be kept.
Books are published under Abstract Sight Press (opens in a new tab).
